The Bruntons

I've found that one of my favourite parts of taking pictures is RE-TAKING them; doing engagement and then maternity, or newborn and then family.  Seeing families grow and change, and being able to capture them is the best thing ever.

Lesson learned: When I let the personality of the people guide the direction of the shoot, I end up with such great pictures that so perfectly reflect them.

My little brother is getting married.
That's such a weird thing to be saying.

Lesson learned: I think this has been the lesson I've tried to learn a few times before but obviously still haven't; I need to review the pictures on my camera as I'm taking them.  So many times I sit down at my computer to edit and think "Oh I wish I'd told her to put her hand here, or asked him to move his head a litttle". One day I'll learn....maybe.....

1 1/2 years ago, while living in marriage central, this wouldn't have been such a big deal.  But weddings are hard to come by here.  And it was so nice to see a couple so in love.

Lesson Learned - I really am learning the importance of being open and relaxed. When I'm so worried about posing and positioning, I should just be letting my clients be themselves. That's when the real emotion comes through the pictures, because it's real. There's that quote by I think John Lenon "Life is what happens while you're busy making plans." I'm learning to capture emotion instead of trying to create it.

If your sister took pictures, wouldn't you be asking her all the time to do some of you?

Lesson Learned - I want need a wide angle lense. And babies do not listen to bribes.  And my version of "smile" is very different to a 3 year old's version, hers often resembling pain/digust/rage.

What better way to celebrate your anniversary then to document your love through pictures, right?!
And how refreshing it was to have the GUY be the one instigating the shoot!!

They have since found out they are expecting their first child - yey!!
Perhaps a maternity shoot is in order?

Lesson learned - I need to learn to use the light instead of hiding from it in the shade or late evening.  I love Leeyen's work with that amazing sun flare.  I need to work on that.
